3-idiots: miss takes

So you’ve seen the movie, read my previous post about 3 idiots. Its a fun movie, alas with many not-so-well-thought-of miss-takes and am not talking about slip-ups. These are mistakes in the very story of the movie.
1. Raging a senior: So Aamir knows conductivity. First of all that prank isn’t all that original. Its been used in many colleges especially IITs, Jadavpur etc for years. They make you piss over the heater. Try doing that. Don’t worry you won’t get electrocuted, cuz you’ll automatically stop peeing as soon as you get the first jolt.
That apart, he shocks a senior. That’s a death sentence in most colleges. You do not get away with that, esp in a college where they can make you strip openly. They get back at you, gag you up and beat the shit out of you. they might as well give you the same treatment as you gave them (read electric shock). The only way you can escape that is by tying up with the particular seniors rival, if there is any. Again chances of that happening are low as it is. You cannot rag a senior esp not on your first day in the college.
2. The Quad-Copter
The cute little versatile helicopter you see in the movie “designed” by Joy. The design is called a quadrotor. It was invented way before the movie’s apparent timeline, around 1923. Check out Quad Rotor on Wikipedia
Now I don’t understand how it was an original idea. Its been there for years, even in the robotics field for years. I also don’t understand what Aamir did, because apparently he did nothing. I hope he changed the direction of rotation of 2 of the rotors to opposite that of the other two. But again that’s not so apparent.
3. Cellphones, guys, cellphones.
When they go to get the papers from the office, Aamir calls using the principal’s office phone. What the hell happened to cellphones. I mean he’s careful enough not to grab a paper later and run. He neatly opens the seal, xeroxes the paper, replaces it and seals the package, but no cellphones. Hell no cellphones. Why use a cellphone to call his girlfriend when there’s a perfectly suspicious and tracable landline phone right ther. give me a break
4. No Generators, are yo kidding me?
So ICE is the top college in India, dragged from #28 to #1 by His strict highness, Mr. Veeru Sahasrabuddhi, but I’ll be damned, the hostel doesn’t have a generator. They have to use an inverter made just to get the lights on. I mean, you got to be kidding me. No generator in the top college of India. Even our college has a generator.
Also add to that the fact, that when the city is knee deep in water, eletricity out, ambulance services out, the internet connection works just fine.
5. And ofcourse, forget Defibrillators and respirators, just say “Allizwell”
So you can revive a dead child just by saying Allizwell. You got to be kidding me. ROFl. Go to a graveyard and say Allziwell 3 timesand you’ll have a nice army of zombies at your disposal.
Am I the only one, who thinks this is crzy?
Finally a plea to die considered by SC

The supreme court has agreed to examine a Euthanasia case, probably for the first time in Indian History, where it wasn’t simply dismissed. So there is hope for Aruna Shanburg. The lady worked in KEM, was raped and assaulted by the hospital janitor. She has been brain dead for 36 years. Her lawyer argued the case before the SC and well for the first time I’ve heard they actually agreed to give it a thought.
Generally SC would summarily dismiss the case saying it is assisted suicide/murder or somethng. but Euthanasia isn’t assisted Suicide. Well in a way it is, but consider the difference. In suicide, the reasons range from bad marks to broken heart, too much pressure from wife, too many loans. Now make another column , put into it: the girl is brain dead. y/es her brain is gone, she will most probably never recover. Chances of recovery in brain dead cases are in the milion-to-one range. She is force fed by tubes, on a respirator, can’t move her hand, infact has her wastes disposed by machines too. For all purposes, she is dead. Only her body lives on. Why not save her some dignity and let her pass on.
I hate suicide. Infact when someone contemplates suicide (and that has happened) I generally say you still have hands, a brain, use them. This girl has neither.
So its good thing SC wants to consider her plea. Most probably it will be rejected, knowing Inida, we hate change. I don’t want Euthanasia be legalized. Doctors will misuse it. The court should have the final say and in cases like these, it should be allowed
Exams postponed

It seems our exams have been postponed to 14th December. Well, postponed is the wrong term since WBUT never really gave us a date. We just somehow assumed it was 8 of December. From what I read on the site, exams for MBA start on 8 Dec and all other streams on 14 Dec. All other streams probably means us. This would be generally good news unless the college decides to hold practical exams before the exams instead of after, which would be trouble. Ciao
Section 377 finally scrapped: Gay sex now legal

Yesterday the Delhi Court, in a historic decison, struck down the section 377 of the Indian Peneal Code invalid. Although it didn’t scrap section 377 in its entirety. It suggested that parts not concerning homosexuality and oral sex be moved to a different section. After which 377 will go where it should always have been, the dust bin.
The day marks victory for the LGBT community as they have long been harassed and opressed. It will also means that there will be no more citizenship in US and Uk for people claiming to be gays.
It was a stupid law that was started years ago by the British and should have been scrapped many many years ago. People have suffered and died because of it. I am personally glad its gone, though I am straight myself. Atleast now
Hows My Prep?

Well pretty bad to be frank. I have only prepared a chapter in analog circuits, the first exam. Zero Preparation in most of the rest. And Oh yeah, I have the wrong book for EM theory
. How? Well long story short I took my cousin’s EM theory book, who is in electrical and didn’t notice until yeterday that it had EE written over it. The old matrix books have this great problem. Black text over a red background. Not very visible. So what to do? I don’t know what to do really. I’ll try studying from another book, let’s see if that’ll help. Ofcourse, Matrix is pretty much the best book to study from. Not because it is any good, but if you sit in the day before the exam, you’re not left with much of a choice are you?

Among these, Digital Electronics is the only moderately easy subject. All other are pretty screwy. I just can’t seem to study these days. The haunting feeling is settling in, but the urge to study is missing. Wonder what everyone else is up to
The Nose of the Storm
May 27th
I posted about being stuck in the storm for a long time. It appears, I wasn’t the only one and the storm has had a worse impact than merely being a pain in the ass. No electricity here still. I went on the rounds of the city yesterday and shot some pictures…just to put things into perspective
Its worse in Kolkata and more so in Bangladesh. 32 people have died in West Bengal according to Time Of India.

A quick run through orkut’s online dating communities for India will conform that these communities have hardly any girls? So what’s the whole point of these communities then? If you’re wondering why this is the case, the answers are many and varied. First of all girls get too much attention in India. I mean comon, there are guys wandering all over them. Why would they need to look for dates? They can stretch their hand out and just get one…
Secondly, most people don’t want to accept that they are single and want to mingle…

BITSAT 2008 is a three hour paper.The test consists of four parts:
Part I : Physics (40 Questions)
Part II : Chemistry (40 Questions)
Part III : (a) English Proficiency(15 Questions) and (b) Logical Reasoning (10 Questions)
Part IV : Mathematics OR Biology (45 Questions)
Thus there will be 150 questions in total and each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark. No marks are awarded for not attempted questions.
Syllabus for BITSAT is more or less same as that for the IITs, though there are some changes

Pre-marital Sex, I repeat is not illegal in India

This whole debate started with a friend of mine ‘infoming’ me that premarital sex is illegal in India. I was quite shocked at the statement. It happens everywhere and no its not illegal anywhere in India subject to the following conditions:
- Both the girl and the boy are ready(consent each other), otherwise its rape
- The girl is above 16, othewise it counts as rape regardless of the consent
- Its not prostitution(which is again illegal here)
Well , homosexuality is illegal in India.
I was shocked further when another guy standing nearby reiterated the view. Infact, half the college beleives that way.
So who is to blame for this ignorance. Don’t really know people comment.
