Finally a plea to die considered by SC
Dec 17th
The supreme court has agreed to examine a Euthanasia case, probably for the first time in Indian History, where it wasn’t simply dismissed. So there is hope for Aruna Shanburg. The lady worked in KEM, was raped and assaulted by the hospital janitor. She has been brain dead for 36 years. Her lawyer argued the case before the SC and well for the first time I’ve heard they actually agreed to give it a thought.
Generally SC would summarily dismiss the case saying it is assisted suicide/murder or somethng. but Euthanasia isn’t assisted Suicide. Well in a way it is, but consider the difference. In suicide, the reasons range from bad marks to broken heart, too much pressure from wife, too many loans. Now make another column , put into it: the girl is brain dead. y/es her brain is gone, she will most probably never recover. Chances of recovery in brain dead cases are in the milion-to-one range. She is force fed by tubes, on a respirator, can’t move her hand, infact has her wastes disposed by machines too. For all purposes, she is dead. Only her body lives on. Why not save her some dignity and let her pass on.
I hate suicide. Infact when someone contemplates suicide (and that has happened) I generally say you still have hands, a brain, use them. This girl has neither.
So its good thing SC wants to consider her plea. Most probably it will be rejected, knowing Inida, we hate change. I don’t want Euthanasia be legalized. Doctors will misuse it. The court should have the final say and in cases like these, it should be allowed
Section 377 finally scrapped: Gay sex now legal
Jul 3rd
Yesterday the Delhi Court, in a historic decison, struck down the section 377 of the Indian Peneal Code invalid. Although it didn’t scrap section 377 in its entirety. It suggested that parts not concerning homosexuality and oral sex be moved to a different section. After which 377 will go where it should always have been, the dust bin.
The day marks victory for the LGBT community as they have long been harassed and opressed. It will also means that there will be no more citizenship in US and Uk for people claiming to be gays.
It was a stupid law that was started years ago by the British and should have been scrapped many many years ago. People have suffered and died because of it. I am personally glad its gone, though I am straight myself. Atleast now
Pre-marital Sex, I repeat is not illegal in India
Feb 2nd
This whole debate started with a friend of mine ‘infoming’ me that premarital sex is illegal in India. I was quite shocked at the statement. It happens everywhere and no its not illegal anywhere in India subject to the following conditions:
- Both the girl and the boy are ready(consent each other), otherwise its rape
- The girl is above 16, othewise it counts as rape regardless of the consent
- Its not prostitution(which is again illegal here)
Well , homosexuality is illegal in India.
I was shocked further when another guy standing nearby reiterated the view. Infact, half the college beleives that way.
So who is to blame for this ignorance. Don’t really know people comment.
And into college, we go
Aug 13th
Okay a few days into college. I am enjoying myself a little bit, though not as much as I would, had I been in Manipal, say. Have made a few friends too here. Bawesh, being one of them. I will ost in more once I get a camera. The camera business hasn’t been going so good after I lost my phone. Anways. I have been ragged, I confess. I was asked to dance, sing, kill invisible mosquitos and measure the area of a room with matchstick, propose to a girl, etc. It will all be better once my carnality is satisfied. Hah. JIS isn’t so bad, after all. In the meantime, there are a few names I want to remember in case I forget:
Ipshita Bose: she was in class 7th made a great partner.
Sneha Mohan: from 7th(or 6th) till tenth. She was a good friend too.
Akash Devgan: in class 7th, a good friend again
Geetanjali Sati: in tenth and before. another sweet girl
Welcome to bullshit
Jun 30th
So, why do I say that? Yes, it is not so obvious. But I want to hit upon Indian Saas-Bahu soaps(not again). Well yes, because I am full o’ astonishment. Welcome to world where there is nothing but tears. I estimate that the amount of wasted out as tears on the set of these people could well be used to serve a family with a supply of water for a decade. And then there are miracles taking place everyday. Where brain dead people are kept on the ventilator for five years and where they actually come back to life. By keeping them on the ventilator, you could actually be wasting hundreds of other lives that could be saved. There is negligible hope of recovery.
Welcome to the haven of moral police. Where alcoholism is a greater crime than rape. Where girls drinking alcohol is a moral taboo and where pre-marital sex is the greatest sin.Where one-night stands almost certainly result in pregnancy.
Wwlcome to Bull shit

SC’s Anti-Ragging Stand: More bad than good?
May 17th
The recent decision of Supreme Court to force colleges to report incidents of ragging may seem like a boon to freshers but is likely to become a bane for the seniors, even the innocent ones. Agreed ragging is a menace, but the measure to curb it will become one too, both for the seniors and the freshers.
For one, it will empower freshers to book seniors for no reason at all. A fresher who may be dissatisfied at his senior’s behaviour can easily make his life hell, even if he hasn’t quite ragged him at all. Such a complaint maybe borne out of a simple grudge or even jealousy for the senior. The college authorities would be compelled to file an FIR even if they know that the senior is clearly innocent(by his past records which may show that he is a good boy
)
It might just spoil the latter’s future. Whether or not he gets expelled, getting an FIR against you is not something that will help your career very much.
And will it prevent ragging? Yes it will to a great extent, but it will also play a role in distancing seniors from freshers out of fear. There will be lesser initial communication out of the shear fear of getting expelled.
Ultimately, I opine that the Supreme Court should reconsider its decision
The Ghosts of the Past: Moral Policing
May 15th
It seems that the Indian Society will continue to be haunted by the scruples of moral conscience for a long time. As is clear from the recent Shilpa Shetty case, some elements here just can’t accept change.
The Change I am talking about is the change of perspective. Many people call this change modernization, I beg to differ Its a change, just a change. India is trying to become more tolerant and rational. But you can’t call it modernization. Just a change of outlook on the part of people. That’s what precisely it is! Whether girls start wearing miniskirts more than the trousers or pre-marital sex becomes encouraged, its all a change of outlook.
But the problem comes in when other people start governing your outlook. For example it is perfectly okay for me to hate girls wearing miniskirts(though I don’t have any such prejudices). I can hate them as long as I don’t go around hunting for them. Now if someone tries to change this opinion, he’s not justified because it’s my opinion and I am allowed to believe what I feel like(under the Constitution of India Part III, article 19, 1(a) and 21).c
Similarly its true the other way round too. If a girl wants to wear miniskirts, she can do so. The amount of baring allowed is defined in the constitution clearly and as long as she does not exceed it, its okay. No one else but she herself has the right to decide what she wears. However the particular matter of clothes is a sensitive one and not always can be conducted freely. I mean its not appropriate to go to a function of school children wearing a mini….
But Public Display of Affection or PDA as it is cutely called is something where intervention of others is definitely a no. Now, getting back to Shilpa Shetty. Why does an innocent kiss have to create such a hullaboo? Why can’t people just accept it? Why does there have to be a lawsuit against them?
Well if we look at the pictures, its just an innocent peck on the cheek. Here, the problem lies in the role of the media. On Zee news, the kiss was on all day. Pictures of Gere kissing Shilpa were displayed all day long over and over again. So something that is not supposed to catch any attention at all gets so much undue attention that people who don’t want to raise an eyebrow are forced to notice it.
The root of the problem lies in the thirst for heroism o the Indians. In any Hindi movie, the female is portrayed as a feeble and weak creature incapable of protecting herself and who gets attacked by a sexual predator who is desperate to outrage her modesty. And just then drops in the hero, who protects the girl and becomes “Her Hero!”. And then she falls in love with him(or in some cases, he ‘voluntarily’; makes her his sister). This is what such people crave for. They think that by becoming “guardians of the society”, they increase their chances of becoming popular among girls(as a lover or a brother). The problem is that these people are cowards and donot quite come up when girls actually need help. Take the Jessica Lal murder Case. Did any of these moral guardians come up then? It was the youth that stood up. These guardians were scared because it was a high profile political case. The Shilpa Shetty case was one that involved a guy from abroad, who could not do any harm to these people. In a more exact reference let’s take the Rakhi-Mika kiss case. It was something done completely against the modesty of the dancer. However that did not raise eyebrows. The Rakhi kiss was far more obtrusive. So let’s ask these people, why not then?
In addition to such protesters, we have the police themselves…
Remember operation Majnu in Meerut? Why is there such an outcry against PDA?
The fact is: the country not only has problems with PDA , but with affection in the first place. As it became clear from the police’s statement after the incident, their target had been unmarried couples. So it is clear that the police had a problem with affection among unmarried couples. Pre-Marital Sex has always been discouraged. It is always believed that Sex with a person is the prerogative of his/her legally(or religionally
) wedded spouse. So there is a hue cry about it. Infact, most hindi soaps seem to endorse this belief. In most soaps, the person who flirts with people of the other sex or involves in intimate acts of affection is portrayed as indecent and profligate(he would also be involved in acts like drug abuse, kidnapping, smoking etc.) And all love affairs of all nature must culminate in marriage, only after which, can they display affection for each other.
Pre-marital sex, according to them is a terrible thing which should not be involved into. Avoid avoid avoid. And if, by mistake(generally when the guy is drunk), you do commit it(apart from expecting a lot of crying from the female), expect a permanent commitment(possibly marriage).
So, even if we say our perspective has changed, it hasn’t. Many people still can’t accept pre-marital sex(even if condoms are used). I donot say that people should have sex before marriage, but if want to (with consent from the other party involved), there shouldn’t be a problem.
And general making out, kissing, snogging shouldn’t be an issue at all.
But as they say
There is debate because there are opinions. IF there were none, we’d be just social units, not individual
So your opinion is your own, please don’t expect others to follow it nor expect them to do so. And please, if your opinion is not accepted, don’t go about breaking houses and studios
